French Women Believe in Good Posture

French Secret #55
French mothers often take their daughters under their wing and help them develop their posture.  Sometimes this might involve formal dance training, such as ballet lessons and sometimes it simply means suggestions on holding one's head high, with shoulders back and stomach tucked in.
And perhaps a French girl might practice walking with a few books balanced on her head!
Have you ever noticed that by holding yourself straight, you automatically look slimmer and taller?  It's amazing what little adjustments and a bit of awarenss can do for a girl's sense of self.  What do you do to practice good posture?  I'd love to hear about it!
P.S.  Happy Mother's Day!

  1. Bonjour chere Jamie! I hope you are enjoying the beauty of this season...are we ever ready for warm weather.... :)
I always notice women with beautiful posture!
Posture is an ongoing struggle for me...I am very prone to slouching, and there is something else to great posture. It puts you into a place of power and self-confidence...not something all of us feel comfortable with...(yet)...but I try to catch myself when I slouch. Perhaps ballet lessons are in order? ;) Now that has been a dream of mine since childhood....
    Great post as always!
    Much love,

  2. Bonjour, Irina! Merci beaucoup for your sweet note here. Yes, I too struggle with good posture. It's difficult being a writer. Still, I pay attention and do the best I can. My yoga teacher actually said, "awareness is half the battle." Isn't that great!? Just become more aware. Oh, and about ballet lessons. I have friend, Barbara Redmond--she writes the wonderful blog "A Woman's Paris" and she's around my age--and she just started ballet lessons and loves them! So it's never too late. I think it's time for you to fulfill your childhood dream! Sending you big hugs and warm spring time wishes, Jamie

  3. My digital posture coach has helped me correct my posture defects, which in turn helped getting rid of shoulder and back pain with total ease.
