I've never been good at finding four leaf clovers--not for want of trying. All I’m able to come up with is a lot of three leaf clovers impersonating four leaf clovers. They look like they've got four leaves, but when you hold them up close you realize they're imposters! They're just trying to trick me into believing that luck is that easy to find.
My friend from France, Margie, recently visited us here on La Belle Farm and during a little walk, she reached down into the grass and voila! She came up with a four leaf clover. And then another and another. I was amazed and if I'm honest--a little jealous. How do you do it? I asked her. What's your secret? She told me that she's been doing it for years. Her whole life. And then, she revealed her secret to finding four-leaf clovers.
Are you ready for it?
Wait.
Wait.
Wait.
It's practice!
How ridiculously straight forward is that? If only I had known the secret fifty or sixty years ago, I would have a whole collection of four leaf clovers pressed into poetry books, between sheets of wax paper, tucked into love letters, kept in jewelry boxes, hidden in pieces of paper with little messages.
But now, I'm afraid it's too late. I'm old.
But, am I really too old to believe in luck? Actually, no. I don't think so--especially now after discovering it has everything to do with practice, with not giving up.
Creative Friends--Everyday you get up and make art. This is why it's called a practice. You may not find your luck every single day, but the more you work, the more likely you are to come up with four leaf clovers. The more luck arrives at your doorstep. The more often the muse alights on your shoulder—so, don't give up.
Because, yes—you make your own luck.
Now go out and find some clovers!
Love,
Jamie
