It's true. French Women write old fashioned letters on pretty stationary with lovely handwriting.
And since they write old fashioned letters, they often receive old fashioned letters too!
Some French Women will collect and organize these lovely literary keepsakes by tying them up in a pretty ribbon, and perhaps even adding a pressed flower and keeping their memories in a little box.
I had practically stopped writing letters, but when I began French lessons with Madame M. I was inspired to begin again. If I miss a lesson, or if I give her a box of chocolates or a book, she'll write a lovely letter to me--always in French! Sometimes Madame M. will include a pressed flower from her garden or a pretty leaf. I treasure these letters.
Do you save letters? I'd love to hear about it!
Merci beaucoup, mes amis!

Oh Jamie, I love letters! Writing them, recieving them...I have always been enchanted by all things having to do with beautiful papers, stationary, fountain pens, etc.
ReplyDeleteIt is such an amazing feeling to get "real" correspondence in the mailbox...have you ever read Alexandra Stoddard's "Gift of a Letter"?
Let's bring back this lovely art! :)
