In less than a week, I will fly off to Paris. My bags are packed and I'm ready to go.
Pretty much, anyway. I am a little nervous. That's the truth. I've been singing that old song from World War I—
"How you gonna keep them down on the farm, once they've seen Paree."
How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm
After they've seen Paree'
How ya gonna keep 'em away from Broadway
Jazzin' around and paintin' the town
How ya gonna keep 'em away from harm, that's a mystery
They'll never want to see a rake or plow
And who the deuce can parleyvous a cow?
How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm
After they've seen Paree'
Only for me, it's how you gonna keep them down in Paree, once they've lived on a farm. And by the way, I do believe I could parleyvous with a cow if we actually had a cow. Certainly, Big Tom (our resident Tom turkey) enjoys a little parleyvousing on occasion.
I have always been a city girl (New York, London, Paris, Los Angeles, New Haven). Okay, with ten years on beautiful Cape du Cod, living with Farmer Bill--back in the day when he was Dr. Thompson of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
So, maybe I'm not such a city girl, after all. Maybe I'm not even a country girl. Maybe I'm just the kind of gal who loves the big wide world.
Yes, that's it. Bonjour, Paris! Bonjour World!
Creative Friends--your assignment for this week is to expand your vision of yourself. Do this by honing in on the most unlikely experiences you've had. Rather than dismissing that week you spent rock climbing with a television star as an anomaly, ask yourself what this means about who you are and why the universe decided to offer you this unusual opportunity. Where does this train of thought take you? Ask yourself if there is an invitation waiting for you to go someplace new, to think outside your comfort zone. Creative Friend, open the door to possibility, and walk right in.
Yes, there's no place like home, but there's also no place like Paris or Amsterdam, or Detroit or Mars or even a little farm in Upstate New York.
See you on the Other Side, my friends.
Love,
Jamie
