There is a season turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under Heaven
A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rain, a time to sow
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace
I swear it's not too late.
Perhaps you remember this song from the folk rock group, The Byrds, back in 1965.
The lyrics are originally from the Bible's Book of Ecclesiastes and was then adapted as a folk song by the glorious Pete Seeger. It was first released as To Everything there is a Season on the 1962 album from the folk music group, The Limeliters.
Here at La Belle Farm, it's autumn and the leaves on the trees have transformed themselves into brilliant bunches of orange, red, yellow and gold--so fantastic that they feel a little unreal. But, they're very real.
Farmer Bill is harvesting the last of the Brussels sprouts, the kale, the butternut squash and we may even get some late-season broccoli, if we're lucky. This week he'll plant the garlic for next year. And then, it's time to put the gardens to bed. There's now a bit of frost some mornings and at sunset, flames of orange ribbons appear in the sky as the sun sets over the Catskill Mountains. The days are getting decidedly shorter.
For everything there is a season and before you know it, October will be gone and we'll enter November. And yes, we're just a little over a week away from our presidential election. And this is part of the season too.
