Spring has arrived

After a long, cold, snow-filled, winter, during which our hens had their annual slow-down and stopped laying eggs, they’re back in business and laying eggs again!

Rejoice! Rejoice! No more trips to the Hannaford’s Supermarket to collect the eggs.

Now, they can be collected each and every morning from the little hen house, where our lovely ladies live and lay.

We’ve felt this change coming for a while now. The signs were evident in the hens combs and wattles as they began turning bright red. And now that the days have grown longer and the light has grown stronger—our hens have also become much more vocal--singing and cackling and sometimes complaining. Yes, I’m talking about you, Miss Leghorn, a.k.a. Joan Blondell.

Hey there! Yeah, Farm girl! I’m in need of more water. And what about them blueberries, baby?!

Yes, yes, coming right up, Madame!

So, you can see--happiness reigns once again in the kingdom that is La Belle Farm. Despite the current tumult—the horrific events happening in the outer world, spring brings with it an undeniable sense of renewal and hope.

Change is in the air.
